Inspired to Piracy by TV3

medium_tv3.gifYou know what? I watch pirated DVDs like most other Malaysians but personally I like to watch "ORI" shows by going to the cinemas.

 But that's another story.

Just last night, something happened to me to compell me to go out and get a pirated DVD. I was watching 28 days -an old show by Sandra Bullock about alcohol and drug abuse and rehabilitation. I think it's quite a good show despite it's age.

It was shown on TV3. I was 'getting into' the show as it was getting interesting. Then, there was unexpected 'jumps' where something was skipped and it made me confused. One of my housemate told me that they actually 'censored' a part. It was when Sandra Bullock got so drunk she ruined her sister's wedding. That part was completely snipped off. That was a critical part of the story that made the other parts of the story make sense.

Hoping that it was a isolated 'snip', I continued watching. No prizes for guessing that the 'censoring' continued throughout the whole show. TV3 butchered the show !!

I cannot even begin to think the reason for the censoring. According to my friend, there was no parts of the show that were lewd, containing nude scenes or vulgar words. It was rated PG-13 for heaven sake!! I was just baffled. AND FURIOUS!!!

I switched off the TV I went out immediately that night and visited a nearby DVD pirate shop for the first time and bought the show.

Thanks TV3. You gave me less reason to watch TV. Pirated DVDs are the way to go if you don't want to get high blood pressure from watching good shows getting butchered.

Maggie Mee Licin

medium_maggiemee.gifDelicious isn't it?
The current TV ads centers on the guy wiping the plate clean till it's so 'licin' (smooth).

Well let me tell you a story of my friend who was unfortunate to be diagnosed with cancer. He loved fast food and can foods. Not saying those caused his cancer but those type of food certainly didn't help.

That was a few years ago. He went thru chemo and as everybody knows, it was not a pleasant thing to go thru. However he was one of the lucky ones. It took a year of painful chemo theraphy and a change of diet that consisted of only organic or fresh food. No more fast food. No more maggie mee.

Doctors diagnosed him and found no more sign of the cancer.

Great right? His family was so happy for him.

Months went by and he went back to his diet of Maggie Mee. Sad to say the cancer relapsed and came back. To be fair, again we can't blame those fast food. We cannot say with absolute certainty it was the yellow and red packet fault. But with hindsight it was a stupid decision to even open a pack of Maggie Mee.

Today my friend is not around. Maggie Mee Licin. Yeah. Right
