Maggie Mee Licin

medium_maggiemee.gifDelicious isn't it?
The current TV ads centers on the guy wiping the plate clean till it's so 'licin' (smooth).

Well let me tell you a story of my friend who was unfortunate to be diagnosed with cancer. He loved fast food and can foods. Not saying those caused his cancer but those type of food certainly didn't help.

That was a few years ago. He went thru chemo and as everybody knows, it was not a pleasant thing to go thru. However he was one of the lucky ones. It took a year of painful chemo theraphy and a change of diet that consisted of only organic or fresh food. No more fast food. No more maggie mee.

Doctors diagnosed him and found no more sign of the cancer.

Great right? His family was so happy for him.

Months went by and he went back to his diet of Maggie Mee. Sad to say the cancer relapsed and came back. To be fair, again we can't blame those fast food. We cannot say with absolute certainty it was the yellow and red packet fault. But with hindsight it was a stupid decision to even open a pack of Maggie Mee.

Today my friend is not around. Maggie Mee Licin. Yeah. Right

Teacher's Selling Nasi Lemak

Asked to comment on Huee’s allegation that some teachers are selling junk food, National Union of the Teaching Profession secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng says it is not true at all.
She says there are a few cases of teachers selling nasi lemak but that is only because their canteen is having problems. But, she stresses that, teachers are not selling junk food in school.
Retired teacher and NUTP secretary K. Ravindran Nair says there are few cases of students and teachers selling nasi lemak but he hasn’t seen or heard of any cases of teachers selling junk food in the 30 years he has been in the teaching profession.

- NST (25 February 2007) - Junk Food Right at the Doorstep

medium_nasi-lemak.jpgYeah I forgot about Nasi Lemak as a type of fast food too. It's definitely unhealthy - especially the one that is cooked in coconut milk (which is how most Nasi Lemak sellers prepare them anyway).

I don't think it's a good idea to allow teachers to sell Nasi Lemak. Kids look to their teachers for guidance. Guiding them into the world of obesity and heart attacks in their later life is definitely not the way to go.

Let's have an anti Fast Food campaign

medium_mcd-taknak.jpg

I'm starting an anti-fast-food campaign. This is probably just one insignificant blog but I truly believe fast food are silent killers in Malaysia. Let's shine a spotlight on this hidden menace and be more conscious and aware of it.

Malaysia wants to help its people kick the fast-food habit.Officials are considering a ban on fast-food advertisements during children's television shows, as part of a campaign encouraging Malaysians to develop healthier habits, like exercising and eating nutritious food. They say almost 40 percent of the country's population is obese, up from 20 percent ten years ago.The fast food industry says it's willing to work with the government in its campaign. A spokesman for McDonald's in Malaysia says the industry isn't likely to suffer any financial impact as long as the ban doesn't bar all advertising. He says some Malaysians head to McDonald's for a meal an average of more than twice a month.

" Isn't likely to suffer any financial impact" ??

Good!! So they won't mind if we kick up the notch and launch an anti fast food campaign over the net too! :)

Feel free to use the Tak Nak pictures anywhere on your blog if you support this campaign. I actually think that these fast food are worse than cigarrettes. I mean, you don't see many young kids smoking but I'm sure there are hundreds of thousand Malaysian kids taking fast food everyday.

Allowing big fast food companies to sponsor kids' shows and cartoons aren't helping either!

I'm glad the government is taking notice. But let us be proactive ourselves and stop taking fast food.

Or at least use moderation and reduce eating it to at least maybe the one or two rare occasion. That's what I'm going to do anyway. Dying of heart attack is tragic and definitely not finger licking good!!

Another Reason for not eating chicken

medium_chicketeatingasbestos.5.jpg

Besides the bird flu, the above is another reason why I'm abstaining from chicken meat for a while.

Several stupid chickens at my Kampung area is seen eating styrofoam! I've seen this quite often and I am very sure I read somewhere that this things can cause cancer.

Hmmm... perhaps this kamikaze chickens aren't so stupid after all...

I know. I've posted before saying how evil this Malaysian breakfast is. But this morning was just too hungry and had to eat something. I promise myself this will be my last Nasi Lemak. :)
